Sympathomimetic Amines on the Isoloated Intestinal Strip of the Tortoise

Abstract
1. The effects of norepinephrine and epinephrine on the isolated longitudinal muscle strips and on the isolated circular muscle strips of the tortoise were investigated.
2. The longitudinal muscle reacted with contractions to norepinephrine and with contractions and relaxations to epinephrine.
3. The circular muscle reacted with contractions to both amines.
4. The contractions to both amines of the longitudinal muscles were abolished or reversed to the relaxations in the presence of regitine. The contractions of the circular muscle strips were abolished by the same drug.
5. The contractile responses to both amines of the both muscle strips were inhibited by the treatment of the preparations with propranolol (l0¥ìg/ml).
6. The relaxations of the longitudinal muscle strips by epinephrine, and the reversed relaxations of the same strips by both amines in the presence of regitine were not elicited in the presence of propranolol (l¥ìg/ml).
